How we compare reviews fairly
Compare the tour and its operating supplier. We record the supplier or activity provider named on each product page. A booking platform sells access to an experience; the operating supplier runs it. A company's reviews from unrelated activities cannot establish the rating of its Northern Lights tour. A business can operate some products and resell others, so the distinction must be checked product by product. Our operator-versus-reseller guide explains where to look.
Use a consistent review threshold. Each ranked listing needs at least 101 reviews on that platform. This gives the comparison a stated minimum review history; it does not make smaller providers worse. For example, the checked Norse Adventures Jeep tour displayed 5.0/5 from 21 reviews. It has a higher displayed score but falls outside this comparison's review threshold.
Keep formats visible. These are selected evening road tours from Reykjavík, including minibuses and Super Jeeps. This comparison does not rank cruises, private charters, tours departing other towns or multi-day packages. Vehicles and inclusions differ, so the table is a ratings comparison rather than a claim that every product is identical. See our Super Jeep versus minibus guide for that choice.
Respect displayed scores and ties. We use the overall star score displayed to travellers and keep equal displayed scores tied. We do not use hidden decimal precision to manufacture a winner. A higher displayed score is not a statistical test of service quality or a measured probability of seeing the aurora.
Keep platforms separate. We do not calculate a combined score across websites. Viator includes Tripadvisor reviews, so those totals overlap and must not be added together. Google reviews describe the Aurora Viking business, while the linked Viator and GetYourGuide pages describe particular tour products. Our Tripadvisor and Google scores therefore are not extra votes in this two-platform comparison.
Coverage and updates
This is a selected comparison, not an exhaustive survey. The ranking applies only to the products in the two tables. A product missing from a table has not been assigned a zero, a lower score or a finding that its operator does not use that platform.
We also identified GetYourGuide listings for Nordur Travel's Super 4x4 tour and the premium minibus activity listed under Northern Lights Bus. The retrieved product and category views showed different review counts. They remain outside the tables pending reconciliation; the latter also needs confirmation of the operating business behind the provider name.
Ratings change as new reviews arrive. We plan to recheck the evidence monthly, expand coverage and revise the wording if the comparison changes.
